THE RESILIENT

Documentary Feature
Filming in Ukraine, the United States and France in 2025

Paralympian Oleksandr Chyrkov is a modern-day superhero. At eight years old, he was hit by a car on the streets of Ukraine causing a massive injury to his left leg and skull. Oleksandr spent two years on a hospital bed undergoing many surgeries. When he left the hospital, he was relocated to a special needs orphanage. His mother had abandoned him. Regardless of his circumstances, Oleksandr never gave up and always believed he could do the impossible. Near the end of his time in the orphanage, Coach Dima appeared in search of players to start a national para badminton team for Ukraine. Oleksandr was the only orphan to take hold of the sport and he began competing in para badminton tournaments around the world. In 2022, the Russian invasion of Ukraine threatened to end his dreams for good. He continued to practice even as bombs sirens were sounding. Oleksandr and his team were forced to flee to France with the help of French citizens so he could continue training for the Paralympics in Paris. Now on a global platform, Oleksandr’s voice represents the people of Ukraine, the Paralympic community, and orphans in sports. Oleksandr understands his mission and has no fear of speaking up for those in need of inspiration and encouragement.
